Senate bill could require Parasailing industry to carry insurance

TALLAHASSEE  --  Several people injured in parasailing accidents are in Tallahassee today pushing for tougher regulations of the parasailing industry.

The Coast Guard estimates there have been 11 parasailing related deaths and 52 injuries since 2006.

Just last summer, two Indiana teens were severely injured while parasailing in Panama City.

Strong winds snapped their tow line and they were flung into a nearby condo and crashed into a parking lot.

They both suffered spinal and brain injuries.
A proposed senate bill would require commercial parasailing companies to carry insurance, have a license issued by the Coast Guard and ensure that service stop when weather conditions deteriorate.
