Santa Rosa County tree giveaway

Milton, FL - Riverwalk Park in Milton will be the site for the Florida Forest Service's Santa Rosa County Arbor Day celebration Wednesday, February 12.

Ian Stone, Santa Rosa County Forester for the Forest Service, and other personnel will be giving away 300 seedlings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Species will include cherrybark oak, Shumard oak, green ash, pecan, mayhaw and river birch.

The species to be given away were selected for several reasons including their ability to survive local soil and climate, ease of care and the fact that they are native to our area.

"These native trees are well suited to provide shade and landscape aesthetics in our area," Stone said. "The pecans and mayhaws will also provide fruit and nuts to enjoy. Since these trees are native they are very hardy and easy to care for.  They should provide the citizens that receive them many years of enjoyment."

For more information, contact Stone at (850) 983-5310.
