Governor Scott meets with president over rising flood insurance costs

Governor Rick Scott met with President Obama on Monday where he pressed the issue of rising flood insurance premiums.

Scott asked the president to stop the hikes until a risk assessment and new flood maps have been drawn.

The president refused, which Scott calls disappointing.
"Here's what we're getting out of Washington. We're getting talk, talk, talk and no action. We need these rates to come back down. We need to wait for the survey to happen and the President can do that by himself."

About 300,000 homeowners in Florida are seeing rate hikes ranging from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars.

State lawmakers are exploring allowing private flood coverage in the state when they meet in their annual session starting next week.
