Annual tower race kicks off today

The third annual 'Race to the Top of the Tower' at Turquoise Place in Orange Beach is today. The stairwell race is open to all local and regional firefighters, police, ems, military personnel and the general public.

The race to the top of the tower will benefit the Special Olympics of Alabama. The event is your chance to come out and test your fitness level against local heroes. Dozens of firefighters, police, ems,  and military personnel will be there to display their strength and stamina as they sprint up the 31 floors of the Turquoise Place East Tower.

"Benefit such wonderful organizations," said Duane Dickson, general manager of Turquoise Place.

The winner gets bragging rights and the title of 'Top of the Tower Champion'. The race begins at 10 am and the entry cost is $15.
