Report states Florida behind in key economical areas
Florida is lagging behind the rest of the country in key economic areas.
That's according to the "Tougher Choices" report released today by the Collins Institute and the University of Florida.
It shows that funding for k-12 education is lagging, and that teacher salaries declined at the fourth fastest rate from 2000 to 2012. The report also went in to detail about infrastructure, reliance on sales tax, and the retirement system.
"Maybe you can turn it around if you really invest seriously in the infrastructure needed to make our cities, sort of, dynamic economic engines and in education. But we don't have any room, at current tax rates anyway, to do that."
The report suggests raising sales tax to seven percent in the state to create more revenue.
