HEALTH NEWS: Overlooking Obesity

A new study on obesity says you might not be paying close enough attention to your child's weight.

Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln looked at 70 studies done over the past 20 years.

They found that more than half of the parents in those studies underestimated their children's weight and didn't realize they were at risk.

What you don't know can hurt you.  If parents don't know that their children have a weight problem, then they may not take the steps to make appropriate lifestyle changes, and get the support that they need.  And there can be real long term health implications.

Researchers say parents are more likely to overlook weight problems in younger children and in boys.
