BERTHA QUICKLY HEADING WEST-NORTHWEST

Tropical Storm Bertha formed over the Atlantic Thursday night and is heading west-northwest.  It has winds of 45 miles per hour and is not forecast to become a hurricane. The storm is not forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico.

Lifeguards getting ready to head back to the beach

Over the weekend, several returning lifeguards and some new recruits started training.

They practiced CPR and did some pretend water rescues, in the chilly Gulf of Mexico.
   
Lifeguards will start patrolling Pensacola Beach March 1st.

In Santa Rosa County, they have just started taking applications for lifeguards to watch over Navarre Beach.
   
They will begin patrolling the beach around mid-March.

In Okaloosa County, lifeguard training begins the first week of March.
They will begin patrolling on March 8th.
