Florida minimum wage

Some Florida lawmakers are fighting for the states lowest paid people.
The state minimum wage increased 14 cents to 7.93 cents January 1st.
That's  68 cents higher than the national wage.
But Florida democratic lawmakers are pushing for *another* increase to the state minimum wage.

They want minimum wage to be 10 dollars 10 cents an hour - even for tipped employees who currently make about four-dollars and 91-cents an hour.
But some business owners and republicans say that would have a negative impact for the state.

"Our hope is of course to move people out of poverty, make folks not have to be as reliant on public assistance as they have been in the past."
"You wouldn't hire like two people, you might hire one person for two if you're paying that much."
The greatest number of workers workers earning minimum wage are in the leisure and hospitality industries.
