Fla. children with seizures may soon have access to medical marijuana

Florida Representative Matt Gaetz is now working to help children suffering from a rare form of epilepsy get treated with medical marijuana.

Lawmakers heard from parents Thursday, who say their children need medical marijuana to control their seizures. A strain of marijuana known as "Charlotte's Web" is high in CBD, an ingredient that controls seizures but it has very little THC, which is what creates a high when the plant is ingested.

Oil can be extracted and can be used through a feeding tube or placed on food.

"It's not addictive, there are no side effects that we know of or that we've heard of and it can't be any worse then some of the meds he's been on already."

After hearing the parents' testimony, Gaetz said he would ask the house speaker to approve a bill to legalize medical marijuana in Florida.
