Weather Alert

On the map below, the circle over the Gulf of Mexico is for an area of low pressure heading toward Texas.  Development is not expected.  Also, we're tracking Cristobal and a tropical wave over the eastern Caribbean Sea that may become another depression though chances are low.

United Way helps with anything from the cold to loss of wages

Some people dealing with extreme cold or loss of wages are turning to the United Way of Escambia County for help.
The United Way helps people in need find the agencies that can help them.
Even during the storm they answered calls to their 211 help line around the clock.

They *expected to answer even more than they got.
Andrea Krieger, United Way of Escambia Co.:  "Even though we can answer the calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week our call volume didn't really increase. And we think that's because there were so many closures that callers automatically assumed that we were gonna be closed."
Most of the storm-related calls were from people needing heaters or food.
The United Way help line in Escambia County is 211.
Santa Rosa County is 623-4507.
And Okaloosa County... 243-0315
