Homeless camp will be allowed to stay open for now
A make-shift campground for the homeless in Esambia County will be allowed to stay put until a court hearing next month.
County officers, and neighbors of the nine-acre parcel in the Mayfair community asked a special magistrate today to close the place down.
They claim it violates codes, and is a health hazard.
"They're trying to get back on their feet.... like ourselves."
A special magistrate today ruled that the camp does not pose an emergency threat, and scheduled another code enforcement hearing on the matter for February 11th.
