Brooks bridge a toboggan run

This may be a once in a lifetime experience.
The Brooks Bridge in Okaloosa County was used as a toboggan run.

Channel Three's Rob Brown joins us live with more on this unusual winter activity.

That's right, we came out early this afternoon because we were told people were sledding on the Brooks Bridge.
Now I obviously assumed that someone had misspoken, and decided to check it out anyway.

For a little over an hour, dozens of people slid down the ice coating the Brooks Bridge on make shift sleds.
They used boogie boards, trash can lids, and even laundry baskets to ride.

David McCraw said, "We moved down here from South Carolina, and we never thought that we would use these sleds again. But we can't wait to get up here and use them."

Police did eventually have to shut the bridge down to pedestrian traffic once it became too dangerous to even walk across.
But for at least a few minutes, they got to enjoy the fun in the .. well .. cold
For now the Brooks Bridge, Cinco Bayou Bridge, Destin Bridge and Midbay Bridge remain closed.
The County is keeping an eye on all the bridges in the County, and we'll update you when we get new information.
