Florida man pre-selected for one-way trip to Mars

A Florida man might be on a one-way trip to Mars. He's applying through "Mars One" -- a group seeking crowd-funding to land humans on Mars in 2025.

He found out in an email.

Dear Mr. Black, you and only 1,057 other astronauts around the globe have been pre-selected. A dream come true for Hampton Black: Moving to Mars, forever.

Congratulations, you have made it to the next round.

As part of his application to the Mars One Project, Hampton sent in this video, and you may recognize the movie. He made the cut out of 200,000 people!

"I've designed and built hundreds of water filtration systems, pumping systems, you name it."

I was overwhelmed with joy, I had some family and friends here when I opened up the email, bunch of high fives, it was exciting.

The 43-year-old former NASA employee has a background in aerospace engineering and space studies.

He wants to be on the team of 40 people who will travel to the red planet and colonize it. He says he's willing to leave his family, his friends, even his children to be a part of history.

What would you tell people if they say you're crazy, why would you want to do that?

"It's for the benefit I think of all mankind to be a multi-planetary species."
