Emergency Room sees a spike in "Fall" emergencies from the storm
All that ice kept hospital emergency rooms busy with an upswing in fall-related injuries.
The Medical Director of Sacred Heart says, over two days they treated sixty- eight patients who slipped and fell.
They ranged from children to seniors.
Several needed surgery and three people are still in intensive care.
Most of them were just trying to walk in their own yards.
Dr. Timothy Rak: "Typically the problem is their feet go out from under them and they weren't expecting it and then they get a lot of momentum going down. When you fall with that much force, on hard surfaces also, absolutely we see more fractures."
Dr. Rak says they did -not- see as many car accident victims as they expected, probably because most people stayed off the roads.
