Pensacola Airports reopened and packed

Over the last couple of days thousands of flights have been cancelled across the southeast.

But as airport runways started to thaw out this morning planes were able to start taking off.

The Pensacola International Airport re-opened just after 10AM.
There as people packed into the terminal hoping to catch their flights.

"People were standing in line as the airport opened around 10:00 this morning waiting to get home to where ever they need to be."
Crews were out early this morning on the runways using machinery and physically scraping ice away...

Once the sun rose icicles  started melting away from this plane.

Kevin Gavin  "Being down in Pensacola and when I told folks it's 25 degrees down here they are a little surprised by that... its almost just a little bit  colder back in DC."
The airport was shut down Tuesday morning.. The first time ever because of ice.

Leaving many stranded and with road closers it made it impossible to leave Pensacola.

Kevin Gavin  "At least this is much better then the conditions in Atlanta, so I think the folks here in Escambia County did the right thing to prepare."

Ashley Sciore  "We're from the mid-west so it was pretty normal for us to be driving, but it was pretty scary out there."
Ashley Sciore and her friends are from Chicago and were supposed to be in Pensacola for two days or so they thought.
Thursday they waited for standby flights... And received good news they would be heading home..

Ashley Sciore "I'm thrilled. Pensacola is a lovely city but we're just trying to get home."
Darlenne and her group are from Pensacola.. they were able to catch their flight to Africa.

Darlenee Pinson  "We've had enough of cold weather so we are going to where it is very, very warm."
"Just because the airport has reopened that doesn't mean everybody will be flying out of here today some flights will still be canceled."
