Winston verdict impact on Seminoles football
The legal process has run its course. Jameis Winston and Florida State can now focus entirely on football.
Dan Shugart joins us now with thoughts on what today's developments mean for the Seminoles on the field.
It's an important reminder that the football aspect of this story is the least important. But, within that realm, there are individual and team concerns that are no longer concerns.
For the team, probably little changes. The Seminoles have remained remarkably focused since the story surfaced.
There's been no sign of distraction. They have played well. And it would seem likely that that wouldn't change for Saturday's ACC Championship game against Duke.
The Noles are 29-point favorites.
Win, Saturday, and the Seminoles will play for the National Championship, January 6th.
Individually, this will certainly affect Winston's Heisman Trophy hopes. He's the presumptive favorite. And voting doesn't close until Monday. Unofficial canvassing of Heisman voters indicates few would now hold this case against Winston.
Winston released a statement, thanking his family and teammates for standing by him. He thanked the state attorney for reviewing all the facts.
And he said he looks forward to leading the Seminoles in their pursuit of their goals.
And we also have a sports crew in Atlanta *right now to cover the SEC Championship.
WEAR and our partners at the Andrew's Institute will bring you live coverage this Friday and Saturday.
