Bride dies in car crash hours after wedding
Just 24 hours after celebrating a wedding, a family in Georgia will now have to plan a funeral.
A bride was killed in a horrible crash just hours after her wedding.
"I couldn't even see her. She was invisible."
We met Chris Thomas Monday in Cherokee County at the scene of a horrific crash the night before that claimed the life of newlywed Kali Dobson.
"I'm thankful I didn't see anything other than the car."
The Georgia State Patrol says Kali and her husband, Ryan Quinton, had just left their wedding reception at the nearby Wheeler house when their sports car veered off Ballground Highway and rolled down a steep embankment, trapping Kali underneath. Thomas told us he saw Quinton stumbling along the side of the road and called 911.
"He was shaken up. He wasn't making a whole lot of sense. He was hysterical."
Thomas says Quinton lead him to the wreck, and then collapsed.
"I said, 'come here, buddy.' I didn't even known his name. And I just, I held him, and I said, 'let's pray,' and we prayed."
Thomas said the hardest part for him was seeing the wedding party show up and learning what happened.
"They still had their bridesmaids gowns on, and you know, and they were all dressed up for a party."
Those who knew the young couple are still coming to terms with the tragedy.
"I can't imagine. I'd never want to imagine that."
GSP says Quinton told investigators he had swerved to avoid hitting a dog in the road, though neighbor Judy Rich Williams just hopes the family can find comfort.
"I know that they are a very strong family. I know they have a lot of faith, and I think they'll pull right through it, because they know their daughter."
Ryan Quinton is recovering from his injuries.
Police say any charges will depend on the results of a blood test.
