Son asks santa to bring dad home from Afghanistan for Christmas

OKALOOSA COUNTY  --  Santa granted a Christmas wish today, for the young son of a Hurlburt Field Airman.
His dad made a surprise return from a year-long deployment.

Laura Hussey "This time of year, Santa gets a lot of toy requests here at Bass Pro Shop. But five-year-old Jakeb Slaymaker needed santa to do a really big job, to pull out all the stops"

Sitting on santa's lap with his one year old brother Jarret, Jakeb explains that daddy is deployed with the Air Force, and the best gift would be having him home for Christmas.
Santa "Let's jingle bell and say ho ho ho, and see if we can get daddy over here, ok? You ready?
Mom tells Jakeb to close his eyes, then an elf opens a magic door.

Out walks Master Sergeant Jason Slaymaker, home from Afghanistan.
Jakeb spent the last couple of months telling people santa was going to bring daddy home for Christmas.

The Slaymakers take santa pictures at Bass Pro every year, so with the company's help, it was easy to arrange the surprise.
MSGT Slaymaker "He wanted it to happen, I acted to put it in place, as I hope all good parents want to do for their children. This was his thing, this was his dream"

Slaymaker is home for good now, he's retiring next fall.
Looking forward to future full of family Christmases, he has his own heartfelt wish.

MSGT Slaymaker "While I've got this opportunity, I want to make sure that I thank all my brothers and sisters that are still out there, doing what they're doing. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, come home safe"

Laura Hussey "Sergeant Slaymaker says a bonfire and a good cigar are on tap for tonight. Tomorrow, it's Christmas decorating. They wanted to wait until daddy came home."
