UPDATE: LAX Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A Transportation Safety Administration officer is dead and at least six others are injured after a gunman opened fire at the Los Angeles Airport this morning.

Officers say the gunman is a 23-year-old man from New Jersey who wrote a rant about killing TSA workers.

They say he pulled an assault rifle out of a bag and opened fire inside a terminal around 9:30 am pacific time.

He then ran up an escalator to a TSA screening area and continued shooting.
He was injured in a gun fight with airport police and taken into custody.

Witness: "The sound of it was so loud that the first time someone thought a bomb had gone off.

"Just sheer and utter mayhem. I mean people were tripping over each other on the floor, bags everywhere.. crying screaming."

The airport remains on lockdown right now.

There are hundreds of passengers lining the streets with their flights delayed or cancelled.

They don't know when traffic will get moving or when flights will resume.
