This is the time to think about fire safety in the home

It's that time of year when people are grabbing their sweaters and starting to bundle up.
And there are different ways to stay warm.. from using a fire place to a space heater, but that can lead to a dangerous situation.
And any little mishap can leave your house looking like a burned out shell.
A blaze like this can happen in minutes... Damaging your home and putting your family's life in danger.
That's what the fire department is trying to stop from happening.. by making sure everyone gets a fair warning.
We followed the Escambia County Fire Department as they helped install smoke detectors inside a home.
The residents inside, a disabled elderly couple.
Their grand daughter Cassandra Brooks says if a fire were to start inside this home... Her grandparents may not be able to get out in time.
The warning alarm can be the difference between life and death.
And this is the time of year fire crews are on high alert.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly half of all home heating fires happen during the winter months.
