Angels in Our Midst-Operation Christmas Child

It's the time of year when many of us are focused on what we want.
But for some local volunteers, the focus is on what other people need... Even if they're half way across the world.

"Lord, just thank you for the opportunity to bless children around the world with the simple gift of a shoe box ."

It is a simple prayer that begins every session of Operation Christmas Child here at Carpenter's Creek Pacifica Senior Living Center.
Betty Pruner, filling boxes of love, "It's for the children overseas and we fill shoes boxes every year.  And fill them with things that people have made, people have donated."

James Brown, giving to Operation Christmas Child, said "They're going to impoverished children in some part of the world.  And I hope, I know that they will enjoy every one of the items that are in there."

The premise of the international campaign is also simple. It is the little things in life that often bring the greatest joy. While many of us wrestle with which of latest gadgets to buy for our children, there are children in many places who treasure the simplest things.

Some boxes will have a warm knit cap or gloves, small stuffed animals or baby dolls.  These seniors will tell you they get much more than they give to Operation Christmas Child.
Mary said, "We're very proud to do this because it makes the little children really happy."

Before they're packed up and sent off to points around the globe,  every box is topped off with love and a handwritten note.

Dear beloved Christmas child,
"I'm a 94 year old great-grandfather who has also been blessed."
"It's been a joy to provide this Christmas gift shoebox to you.  God is good.  He's been good to me and this shoebox is his way of being good to you. "
