Mass casualty training in Okaloosa

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is taking part in a mass casualty field training exercise with the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services, and various local fire departments on Friday, November 8th from 7 a.m. to noon.

The full-scale exercise will be conducted at the Shalimar Courthouse Annex and will test capabilities in securing scenes and transferring large numbers of patients to medical facilities in the event of an actual disaster.

Participating agencies wanted to inform the public in advance that they will be simulating the movement and treatment of mock victims who could be made up to appear as if they're severely injured, as well as hospital staff in personal protective gear simulating a decontamination process.

The exercise will not impact the ability of Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, the OCSO, or other involved agencies to conduct normal daily operations.
