Four years later, Tyler Jefferson murder remains unsolved
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- Four years ago today, an 18 year old sailor was gunned down while jogging in Escambia County.
Tyler Jefferson died on 49th Street, in Myrtle Grove.
Her murder has never been solved.
Tyler Jefferson was shot and killed at this intersection on 49th Ave and Beech St. A memorial has been here for 4 years, but investigators say they aren't a whole lot closer to finding who killed her.
"Why, that's the big question and why, and who did it, another frustrating case we have."
Investigator Troy Brown pulls out cold case files every day.
"One thing that's important is that we go back and review witness statements, maybe there is something we missed, maybe a new set of eyes can pick up on."
One case that stands out for him is the Tyler Jefferson murder. The 18-year-old sailor was jogging near Corry Station when she was shot to death.
Crime Stoppers billboards have been up for several years. Now offering 35,000 dollars for information that leads to an arrest.
"We do get good tips from time to time but haven't had the tip, to break the case."
Since no one has been arrested there is still fear in the neighborhood. Many remember November 12, 2009 like it was yesterday.
Ernestine Olds: "I seen a lot of people and a child laying on the ground out there, I heard 2 shots over there and 1 shot by the dumpster." "All I could think about it, is it could have been one of mine."
Every year a race is run in her honor, and there are plans to set up a scholarship fund. And for the investigators, they are also on a race. But the finish line sometimes seems so far away.
"It's like you are on this long journey and then you get to the edge but, you don't have anywhere to go 'cause you are right at the edge."
