Recycling more and paying less

People who live in Mary Esther will be recycling more next year and paying less.

The City's contractor, waste management, will replace small recycling boxes with 96 gallon covered containers.
Those containers will be picked up once a week.
Regular waste will also be picked up once a week, instead of the two-pickup system being used now.
Because of the changes, customers will see their bills go down by about a dollar a month.

Joe Simmons from Mary Esther says, "Any time you can save money, you've got to be doing the right thing. I'm not one of those that wants to be giving away any more money than we're giving away."

When Okaloosa County tried the large containers in a pilot program last year, the amount of garbage going to landfills went down by 40 percent.
