Midwest begins cleanup from deadly storms and tornadoes

MIDWEST   --  The cleanup across the midwest from Sunday's outbreak of tornadoes is well underway.

Eight deaths are being blamed on the violent storms.
The Illinois town of Washington appears to have been hardest hit.
The mayor says as many as 500 homes were damaged or destroyed by a tornado that tore an eight mile path through the town.

Along a  46 mile path of sheer destruction.
Left behind by just *one deadly EF-4 tornado

It was one of dozens of tornadoes to tear across 7 states Sunday leaving- hundreds of people homeless
- The governor of Illinois saying - there is a serious shortage of temporary housing for tornado victims

With temperatures dropping - a major concern -for those - left with nothing and for the thousands of others- still without electricity.

"Mother nature has handed out a challenge and we've got a work cut out for us."

As crews work to restore power -neighbors - are out today- helping each-other with the heartbreaking task of sifting through the debris
Pieces of which - are being found as far as 90 miles away from one of the hardest hit areas - Washington, Illinois

In Washington, some glimmers of hope -- lost loved ones being found and residents finding meaning the few momentos, that were spared.
