New Destin Air Traffic Control tower

DESTIN   --  Tonight, Okaloosa County commissioners are expected to sign off on a plan to fund a new air traffic control tower in Destin.

The airport has been working with city and county leaders on a plan to build a tower for several years.

Safety is a big concern because air space is very crowded with military planes and civilian planes.

A control tower would also allow for simultaneous launches between Destin, the Fort Walton Beach Airport  and Eglin Air Force Base.

The tower will cost four million dollars.
But, the county will only pay one million.

The government and the Florida Department of Transportation are picking up the rest of the tab.
