Escambia school leaders create program to help stop bullying
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- Here in Escambia County, school officials have a new program that's designed to stop bullying.
Students, parents and teachers can submit anonymous tips on-line, to let staff know that someone is being bullied.
Ken Myers reads the tips and looks into them immediately.
If a tip does turn out to be justified as bullying, the person is punished through the school system.
The district also has specially trained counselors who work with the victim and the person accused of bullying.
"One case we dealt with was a child with a disability, a lot of it is boyfriend, girlfriend, a lot of times new girlfriend will try to get old boyfriend...Make it worse for the victim."
Myers says most cases of bullying take place outside of school and on social media, so it's important for parents to be involved.
