Patton Drive murder victim identified

ESCAMBIA COUNTY  -- The Escambia County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who was murdered Tuesday night in Warrington.

21 year-old William George was shot to death and now investigators are asking for your help to find his killer.

George's body was found in front of a home on Patton Drive right across the street from Forest Creek Apartments around 10:30 PM Tuesday night.

An emotional scene played out Wednesday as flowers and a balloon were placed near the area where George's body was found. A young woman broke down in tears as she laid out the makeshift memorial. She said only that she'd known George since she was a baby.

He was shot several times in the chest and was dead before deputies arrived.

Neighbors say the sound of the gunfire woke them up.

"I just heard five gunshots," said Anthony Carey, "Three rapid ones after another, 'Boom, boom, boom,' and then two others, 'boom, boom.'"

Carlos Butler, another neighbor, said, "I heard the shots. There was a car that sounded like a, maybe a small little compact type car, older model because of the exhaust sound, and it took off."

Although George's body was found in front of a home, deputies believe he may have actually been shot somewhere else close by.

"It's a tragedy and it's not right," said Roderick Brooks, who lives across the street at the Forest Creek Apartment complex. He says he's praying for justice.

"The boy was a good guy, "Brooks said, "Somebody needs to say something."

William George was known to many as "Chill Will".

Investigators have not yet released a description of any suspects or a motive. If you have any information that can help them, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers immediately at 850-433-STOP.
