University Towne Plaza revitalizing Davis Highway

ESCAMBIA COUNTY   --  New developments to University Towne Plaza are  revitalizing parts of Davis Highway.

The work is expected to be finished next month.
Simon Properties says the open air plaza will include more than 700,000 square feet of stores and restaurants.

Neighboring businesses say they're already starting to feel the impact.
Davis Highway often has busy traffic but appears to have grown in recent months.

Many believe the University Town Plaza is bringing more people to the area.
With new stores, restaurants and more on the way...

What used to sit dormant for years following Hurricane Ivan, has now become a bustling epicenter of activity that's being felt up and down the highway.

Jessica Brossard - Sky Pizza
"Definitely more people driving along the highway, out for a day of shopping and then they're hungry, they want a slice of pizza to eat and we sell pizza by the slice"

Jessica Brossard says Sky's Pizza is busier now than it used to be.
She believes growth up the road, may have something to do with it.

"We're getting a more steady flow of customers, it's not just our regulars and a couple new people every now and then, we're constantly getting new people in"

Hanks Fine Furniture has also seen an uptick in business.
Jim Johnson - Hanks Fine Furniture
"We've noticed with the new buildings at the University Town Plaza, there's been a lot of traffic.  This store's traffic has been up significantly over the previous month"

And traffic may get heavier, as the Texas Roadhouse prepares for its grand opening in December.
