Gulf Breeze business shares impact of government shutdown

GULF BREEZE  --  The owners of an antique mall in Gulf Breeze are also relieved the shutdown is over.

The Iron Gargoyle is normally busy this time of the year with shoppers getting ready for the holidays.

But their sales are down 69 percent, compared to this time last year.
The owners believe many customers are afraid to spend their extra cash because they're fearful about the future.

Donna Watts/Iron Gargoyle Co-Owner:  "When you put a wrench in the middle of it, you kinda stop us from doing what we need to do in order to pay our salaries, pay our taxes and provide a service to our community."

Watts believes small businesses are taking the biggest hit from the shutdown, because so many survive from month to month.

They often don't have the reserves they need to survive a big drop in income.
