Florida Senate discusses gambling expansion
The Florida senate select committee on gaming spent nearly three hours this afternoon listening to paid consultants who study gambling.
The committee was told any expansion, including destination resorts, would be irreversible and that any expansion will have unintended consequences. Chairman Garrett Richter says today's hearing sets the stage for more public input.
"The next step in this process will be, we're going to have those public hearings, we have four public hearings scheduled for South Florida, Lakeland , Jacksonville and the Pensacola area. Our goals there are to get feedback from the public."
Any changes in state gambling law could void all or part of the state's deal to allow gambling by the Seminole tribe. The tribe has paid the state more than one billion dollars since 2010.
