New search option to Sex Offender Registry

FLORIDA   --  A new online feature will let college students in Florida search for sex offenders and sex predators on campus.

This year, the Florida Legislature set aside funding for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to create a university search section on Florida's Sex Offender Registry website.
The database includes public and private schools as well as technical centers.
All you have to do is click on the university search tab, then pick your school out of a list.
You can see which sex offenders are currently enrolled at your school.
Students we spoke with, have mixed feelings about this.

"It kinda draws away from the fact that it can be anybody who could hurt us sexually or something like that"

"My sister is gonna be enrolling in college soon, this is a great tool"

There are currently two registered sex offenders and one sex predator at UWF's main campus.

At Pensacola State College-- there are 13 registered sex offenders. This includes the main campus, Milton campus, and Warrington campus.
