ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Capitol Hill shots fired
WASHINGTON -- It was a chaotic scene on Capitol Hill this afternoon.
Law enforcement sources say a car chase that started at the White House ended at the US Capitol - and a female suspect is dead.
ABC News has learned that the suspect used a car to try to ram a barricade near the White House.
The suspect then fled - leading police on a chase up to Capitol Hill
Shots were fired in between the capitol building and the senate office building- but it is unclear by whom.
No weapon was found in the woman's vehicle. There was a child inside - sources say the child was unharmed.
The first reports of gunshots outside the capitol came in at about 2:30 pm.
Senators Sherrod Brown and Bob Casey described to ABC News what they heard.

The US Capitol and surrounding area were on lockdown for less than an hour.
So was Pennsylvania Avenue outside the White House.
There was a traffic injury involving a Capitol police officer after barricades in the area went up. But officials said no capitol police officers were shot.
