Pensacola Beach November air show is on!
The Santa Rosa Island Authority voted unanimously to host an air show Veterans Day weekend, with or without the Blue Angels.
The Blues have been grounded since April because of sequestration. A show with the blues would be about $170,000 dollars, without would be about $117,000 dollars.
Lynda McGuire is from Saint Louis and visits Pensacola Beach every year she always comes down for the air show, but was disappointed this year when the Blues did not fly.
"Wasn't as good as in year's past... it's pretty amazing"
But, McGuire was excited to hear about an air show in November, with or without the Blues.
"I would love it and have her see her first airshow"
The Santa Rosa Island Authority is planning to have an air show Veterans Day weekend. That Friday, NAS Pensacola will host "Wings Over Pensacola" Saturday and Sunday, the show will be on Pensacola Beach. Right now, there will be eight civilian acts.
The fate of the Blues is still up in the air, but the Island Authority will be ready to include the Blues if they get the green light to fly. They're also hoping if the air show is a success, to start a November air show tradition on the beach.
"I think it's awesome... everyone needs to be a part of it," Bobby Walkup said.
Bobby Walkup likes the idea of an air show, but only if the Blue Angels are flying.
"I'd probably only go if the Blue Angels were there."
The Blue Angels won't know their fate until October, when the new fiscal year begins.
If they get the green light, they'll only have about six weeks to prepare for the show.
