Fallen soldiers’ families receive recognition
Florida is joining a growing list of states that recognize the families of fallen soldiers.
In the cabinet meeting Tuesday morning - the governor and cabinet called for the last Sunday of September to be gold star day.
The term "gold star" goes back to World War One - where gold stitching is placed over a blue star when a soldier is killed in action.
Gold star mothers say the recognition is long overdue.
Georgianna Carter-Krell said, "Unless you've lost a son or a daughter you don't know. You can lose a mother, you can lose a father; but losing a child is something you can never can recover from. You overcome it; you learn to live with it. But, its always in your heart."
Gold star day will be September 29th.
