Santa Rosa Commissioners to discuss Bed Tax at meeting

SANTA ROSA COUNTY      -  County commissioners will discuss a one cent increase in the Bed Tax today during their meeting.
The money would go towards repairing beaches that have eroded.
County leaders say the beach is due for beach renourishment within the next year or so

But, the price tag for the project is 12 million dollars. To help pay that bill the County Tourist Development Council is recommending a once cent increase in the Bed Tax.  That way there is a dedicated source of funding to keep the beach beautiful. Most residents say they're in favor of the increase, especially if it's at tourists expense.

Willet Nekamp- Resident
"It gives the powers that be something to work with and to plan accordingly."
Barbara Balch- Resident
"They enjoy the beaches, they can pay the tax and we can benefit from it."

Kalie Desimone
Increasing the Bed Tax from four cents to five cents would bring in about 300,000 dollars a year.
