Beautification projects to start on Pensacola Beach
Summer is almost over, but work to beautify Pensacola Beach will continue well into the fall.
Crews are planting more than 2,000 palm trees, grasses and plants along Via Deluna Drive and the medians. It's part of a $575,000 dollar landscape improvement project that's being paid for by the Santa Rosa Island Authority. The roadway will also have sidewalks and bicycle lanes.
Several more improvements will be made on the beach this fall. A pedestrian crosswalk with flashing lights will be installed on Pensacola Beach Boulevard. And the toll plaza will be revamped with new software so the gate arms can be removed. Cameras will also be installed to catch drivers who don't pay.
