Navarre Beach Pier management
Navarre Beach - A popular spot on Navarre Beach is now at the center of a lawsuit.
The Santa Rosa County Commission is being sued. Over how they handled the biding process on the Navarre Beach Pier.
The law suit was filed Wednesday and the revote has been tabled for a later date.
Pier Inc has ran the Navarre Beach Pier since 2010.
Their contract expires in December and Santa Rosa County Commissioners wanted to make sure if management changed it would be a smooth transition.
"The are doing a outstanding, fabulous, job out here, they're just like family to us here in Navarre," said Jonathan Cuthrell.
Five companies placed bids and were ranked.
Pasco Gibson and Yolanda Wells were the top choice.
But, the owner and current pier manager, Dorthy Slye of Pier Inc., appealed the decision. So, the commission decided to vote again.
But on Wednesday, Gibson and Wells filed a lawsuit saying the commission shouldn't change their minds in the middle of negotiations and they have used the same method to award contracts for the past 20 years.
None of the parties wanted to comment.
But one of the others bidders, the owner of TC's Front Porch, said he felt like his proposal was ignored.
"We never got to present it like it should've been presented and they voted immediately afterwards and i don't think we got a fair shot," said Robert Benaquis
His plan was to create several jobs over the next few years and put nearly one million dollars into the pier by adding a restaurant and farmer market.
Larry Pereira fishes at the pier twice a week and doesn't want to see his favorite fishing spot change.
"I think it's the way it should be right now this is perfect. If you get to much going on it will end up like Destin," said Larry Perrier
