Senate panel votes to support president's decision for militry action in Syria
SWEDEN -- A senate panel has voted to give President Barack Obama the authority to use military force against Syria in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed the resolution.
It would permit Obama to order a limited military mission against Syria, as long as it doesn't exceed 90 days and involves no American troops on the ground for combat operations.
The full senate is expected to vote on the measure next week.
Meanwhile the president is in Sweden, defending his position to the Swedish Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister and I are in agreement that in the face of such barbarism the international community cannot be silent, and that failing to respond to this attack would only increase the risk of more attacks
The president's next stop is Russia.
