New hatchery to be built in Downtown Pensacola
We have new information about the location of a fish hatchery that will soon be built in Pensacola.
The hatchery will be next door to Nick's Boathouse. This land will soon encompass 3 ponds and an indoor facility.
The hatchery, which will cost 20 million dollars will be paid for with funds that the city secured from BP through the Natural Resource Damage Assessment process. The Florida Gulf Coast Marine Fisheries Hatchery and Enhancement Center is slated to include a state-of-the-art saltwater fish hatchery, an integrated coastal habitat plant production facility, and a venue for public outreach and education on marine resources conservation. Nick's Boathouse will be neighbors to the hatchery. The general manager of the restaurant says he's thrilled the land will go to good use.
Charles Slayton- General Manager, Nick's Boathouse
"i've heard it will be open for field trips and there'll be an educational side to it but the bay has had it's struggles and anything to help restock it, even if it isn't just to this area and it's for surrounding areas, it's nothing but positive pretty much."
The workshop will be held at 5:30 at the Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Community Center where there will be discussion about construction.
