Volunteers save baby turtles from vandalized nest
Volunteers in Orange Beach worked Wednesday night to save some baby turtles who had their nest vandalized.
They had been watching the nest and knew there were 108 eggs in it. 102 of those eggs hatched on Saturday. But Wednesday night, someone tampered with the nest, and the remaining six eggs.
Volunteers saved three of the baby turtles, and they released them into the Gulf. But they found one turtle dead, and the other two are missing.
There are almost 80 known nests along Alabama beaches, and they are all marked and being monitored by volunteers.
Sea turtles are an endangered species and it's a federal crime to disturb their nests.
