Florida Food Stamp benefits may be going down November 1st

FLORIDA   --  More than three and a half million Floridians could see their food stamp benefits cut on November 1st.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program -- also known as SNAP, or food stamps -- got a bit of a boost in 2009 because of the Recovery Act.
 But that financial boost is set to expire this November.
That means families may be looking for alternative ways to put some food on the table.
So area food banks are getting ready for the impact, but they aren't as prepared as they would like to be.

We are down in donations of food by about 30,000 pounds.  That's significant for us.

And while a lot of people give during the holidays, we also see a lot of folks coming in for the holidays, too."
Manna Food Pantries gave out about a million pounds of food last year in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. 
It relies on volunteers and donations to function.
