US peanut production estimated to be down 55%

Florida and Alabama are the top two peanut growing states.
But the production this year is way down.

According to the USDA's August crop report farmers in those two states planted about 150,000 *fewer acres of peanuts this year.

And record rainfall is taking a toll on what's left.
Standing water in the fields is damaging plants.

The rain also delayed spraying for weeds, pests and disease.
Overall, peanut production in the U.S. Is projected to be down 55 %.
