Florida Education Commissioner steps down

FLORIDA  --  Florida's Education Commissioner is stepping down.
Tony Bennet announced his resignation today, three days after allegations surfaced that he had boosted the grade of a charter school run by a  major republican donor during his last job as Indiana's School Chief.

Bennet denied wrongdoing but said he didn't want to be a distraction to Governor Rick Scott's efforts to overhaul the state's education system.

Bennett lost his re-election bid last November in Indiana. He was hired by Florida in December.

No word yet on his replacement.
