Local wounded warrior helps others learn to live with PTSD

PENSACOLA -- A wounded warrior from our area is helping others learn to live with post-traumatic stress.  Elliott Smith lost his leg and developed PTSD while serving in Iraq.
He just got home from a two-month lecture tour in Europe for a non-profit called Peace on Earth in Action. He shared the story of his recovery... and his addiction to pain medication.
Smith said, PTSD has to be treated with more than just drugs.
It's a mental injury, a spiritual injury and a moral injury and all those things have to be treated, not just the mental aspect, said Smith.
POE in Action helps many veterans in our area.
If you'd like to volunteer call Janis Wilson at 850-341-1399. They host support groups, offer classes, and provide emergency housing for people with PTSD.
