Parents speak out against sexy teen clothes
According to multiple parent blogs stores are showing some very sexy looks for young girls. Everything from short shorts to skimpy dresses are on shelves in tween sizes.
And research shows parents would be wise to steer clear. A study done by the American psychological Association in 2010 found the sexualization of girls in clothing and media can do real damage. Barely-there fashion choices can negatively impact a girls' self-esteem, according to the research. It can even increase risk of depression or eating disorders.
The good news is that as parents of tweens, you still control the purse strings. But to help avoid an argument, it's a good idea to have ongoing conversations about what's appropriate, what's not, and why.
Many are already speaking out on social media. Many are naming names, calling out specific brands that promote overly sexy clothes for young girls.
