Quinn Bayou Marina set to become profitable operation for Milton

MILTON   --  The Milton City Council has decided it will enter into an agreement for a private company to run the old Quinn Bayou Marina.
It's all part of a master plan for the future of the riverfront in the city.
The Quinn Bayou Marina is locked up tight right now, but the city is going to turn over management of this property to a private firm in hopes that it will boost business and make the city of Milton some money.

Who doesn't enjoy a day on the river?
Gary Barnes/Boater
"It's quiet. It's a smooth area. You know during the week it's very few people out here. But the facilities here are very nice. So it's a great place to come."

The city of Milton is looking to capitalize on that feeling.
The plan is to develop the riverfront all the way from Bagdad through downtown.

Part of that plan had the city purchase the Quinn Bayou Marina property but the city isn't in the marina business.

Guy Thompson/Milton Mayor
"We can turn it over and lease it to a private business who can do something and provide services on the river. And that's, you know, a real good idea and it'll bring income into the city also."

The lease with *Ship Shape* Management is effective immediately.
Right now the property is sitting empty but the city sees it as a win-win situation with potential for a restaurant with banquet facilities and more.

Guy Thompson/Milton Mayor
"We bought it with TDC money    Tourist Development Council money and our money. We have bigger plans for it in the future. This is a short term lease. We sort of seeing how this works out in the first year."

Gary Barnes/Boater
"I think it's a great idea. I think it will attract people to the Milton area. I think it's a great facility. The city does a great job of keeping it up. I think it's worthwhile endeavor. I think it's definitely an attraction that will be used."

The lease on the Quinn Bayou Marina is good for one year, and it's all part of that master plan to turn the Riverwalk here in Milton into a destination
