Sacred Heart Hospital's Child Literacy campaign
ESCAMBIA COUNTY -- Pediatric doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola want to help more children enjoy reading.
They collected more than one-hundred books during their one-week "Child Literacy" campaign.
Today, they celebrated with the Blue Wahoos' mascot Kazoo.
The goal of the project is to get more parents to read to their kids.
Peter Jennings, M.D.:
"Reading to your child is one of the best things that a parent can do to promote vocabulary in their child as well as school readiness and that translates into school performance, school success, self esteem of the child."
The books they collected will be donated to Loaves and Fishes to be handed out to families.
