Oil removal process taking longer

73 pounds of oil has been found on area beaches in just one week.
That's from Pensacola Beach to Perdido Key according to the Department of Environmental Protection.
The problem is, it now takes a-while to get anyone out there to clean it up.
On June 1st  BP stopped actively cleaning up what they believe is oil from the Deepwater Disaster.
Now everyone has to go through a  national response center hotline.
They call the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard will then drive to Pensacola Beach, then they will call BP workers, they may get here the next day, whether its still there or taken back out to gulf.
If you do see any oil you are asked to not touch it. First of all, you should call the Coast Guard then give Santa Rosa Island Authority a call.

The county is writing letters and meeting with state representatives to try and get contractors back out here full time.
