NEW INFORMATION - Mobile Bay barge explosion
MOBILE BAY -- We now have new details about the barge explosions on Mobile Bay back in April.
A US Coast Guard preliminary report says a mechanical blower malfunctioned causing a chain reaction.
The Coast Guard says the crew shut down all of the blowers.
But vapors from the left over natural gas gathered around the barges.
When a towing vessel pulled into the port, that vapor got into the engine room's ventilation system.
The vapor caught fire and triggered the series of explosions.
Three people were hurt.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still working on its accident report.
